  • 29 Year Career in Construction.
  • Training and Systems Development Consultant/Construction Firms. 11/06 to Present.
    Provide critical path needs assessment for Construction Firm construction management department. Develop company specific Superintendent Reference and Safety Manuals. Develop and present Superintendent Training Seminars. Topics covered include formal scheduling practices, planning and reporting systems, information systems, time management, site management, effective communication, problem solving, job site safety, quality control and quality assurance, trade/technical knowledge. Develop and track project specific Master Schedules using MS Project. Provide one-on-one follow up and support to Superintendents through phone, email, and job site visits.
  • Commercial Jobsite Superintendent. 2 years (11/04 to 10/06)
    Oversaw all aspects of construction and managed construction staff on two projects simultaneously. Formally scheduled all Subcontractor work using MS Project. Prepared Weekly Construction Reports for Senior Management. Daily inspected Trade work for Quality Assurance Standards and in preparation for Municipal Inspections. Coordinated Architect and Engineer errors and omissions with Subcontractors using RFI and Change Order processes. Worked with Architect, Engineer, and City Building Department to revise and resubmit building plans. Facilitated communication between Owner, Architect, Engineer, and Senior Management through regular Job Site Meetings and email communications. Monitored Job Site Safety and conducted Weekly Safety Meetings.
  • Residential Custom Cabinetmaker. 18 years (1987 to 2004)
    Owner/Operator of a custom cabinet business. Designed, built, and installed quality custom cabinets. Maintained a profitable “referral only” cabinet business by targeting a precise market niche, pre-qualifying clients, being extremely professional, providing prompt and personal service, developing a quality product, and maintaining good accounting practices. Interviewed clients to determine needs/desires. Developed precise cabinet specifications and scope of work for each job. Provided job estimates and cost options. Developed cabinet layout and design. Provided computer generated floor pans, elevations, and 3D renderings for client approval. Personally hand selected all lumber/materials used. Cabinets built to exacting tolerances using state of the art machinery and systems. Coordinated cabinet installation with other trades to insure smooth scheduling. All cabinets custom fit to field conditions during installation.
  • General Contractor/ Spec Builder. 8 years (1988 to 1995)
    General Contractor/Builder of a “Spec” Building Partnership. Obtained building permits from City/County Building Departments. Directed all aspects of construction and managed job site daily. Scheduled and met with City/County Building Department Inspectors. Coordinated finish selections with partners/investors.
  • Apprentice. 9 years (1978 to 1987)
    Apprenticed with several contractors. Learned to build homes through hands on experience from the ground up. Exposed to all trades, processes, and building sequences. Developed working knowledge and skill in rough and finish carpentry, concrete work, garage doors, roofing, plumbing, cabinetmaking, and cabinet installation.

  • Served a 2 Year Mission for the LDS Church in Thailand, 1973 to 1975.
  • Current Scout Master of BSA Troop 309, Tujunga, California.
  • Founder and President of the ssRcc. Semi-Serious Recreational Cycling Club.
  • Hobbies include: Cycling, Surfing, and Rock Climbing.
